CAPM

04/29/2012 - 10:29am

At Passionate Project Management, we want to do everything we can to ensure that you are successful on your PMP, CAPM, PMI-RMP (Risk Management), or PMI-ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner) exam and ensure you understand the examination process.

1) Passionate Project Management does not recommend that you schedule your exam for the day after your boot camp completes. All of our courses include a final mock exam (taken after the end of class) that indicate your readiness and gaps. This information is critical to your success on the exam.

We find that many people underestimate the complexity of the information that will be provided during the boot camp. We strongly suggest that you allow yourself at least a few days to recover from the class and digest the feedback that has been provided to you.

Having said that, we, of course, suggest that you wait no longer than one month after your class to take your exam, so as not to lose the knowledge base.

Online Session

Things have been hectic around here at Passionate Project Management - word is spreading about our fabulous classes and it's definitely keeping us busy - but we LOVE that!! So I'm a little late in getting this post up.

Our mission at Passionate Project Management is very simple: Provide the BEST exam prep experience for our students. In line with that mission, we had some concerns regarding offering a LIVE ONLINE version of our PMP/CAPM exam prep boot camp as a big part of our courses is the personal interaction with our students. We often say that we have taken a transactional business and made it relational. We love our students! And sometimes that's more challenging to develop online versus in-person.

Phoenix PMP Class March 2012

Pictured from left to right: Laura, Maria, Brooke (with Gizmo), Diann, Belinda (instructor), Nancy, Jenny

We had a fabulous PMP/CAPM class in beautiful Scottsdale, Arizona this week.

This particular class was very special for me. We love the fact that we are a small company and develop personal relationships with our students. This class was certainly no exception to that - but it was definitely unique!

    Jenny's Story

We had a PPM alumni participating in the class. Jenny had taken our Risk Management (RMP) class last fall and had returned to PPM to prepare for her PMP. What makes Jenny's story unique is that she had been referred to us by Bethany (another PPM alumni, who incidentally, will be PPM's Passionate Project Manager of the Month for March 2012). Jenny had intended to take a PMP class when she registered for the RMP class. She accidentally arrived to a risk management class. The RMP tests not only in-depth knowledge of risk management, it also tests the candidates fundamental knowledge of the PMBOK Guide and the PMP concepts, which for someone without a PMP, can be challenging to learn in the short time-span of class.

Today was a typically great day for Passionate Project Management - three of our students from our on-site class last week passed their PMP exams. In reviewing one of those student's score report, we though it would be helpful to provide a little insight into what makes us different from other exam prep providers.

Our goal is for every student to be successful on their exam. We specialize only in the PMI credentials and certifications and ensure that we are available to assist the students all the way through the process.

Our first step is to provide everyone with access to a free webinar with a PMP instructor. During the webinar, we walk through the entire application process and answer any questions.

pass-fail

As an exam prep provider, a common question we get from potential students is "What is your pass rate?".

At PPM we have a policy of transparency. We want our clients (current and perspective) to feel confident in their investment in an exam prep course from us and so we do publish our pass rates - just as do many other training companies. We stake our reputation on ours being accurate and up-to-date!

However, determining a pass rate isn't as easy as it seems.

Here's how we approach tracking our pass rates:

1. Prior to class, we encourage students to compete their PMI PMP application, have it submitted, and have the exam scheduled. There is a correlation between success rates and the amount of delay between the class and the actual exam.

2. During class we set expectations with our students. We have them contact us prior to taking the exam (so that we can validate readiness) and contact us after their exam with their results - pass or fail!

Exelis/ITT On-Site PMP/CAPM Exam Prep Boot Camp
Instructor: Kelly Morrison

The Exelis Team came ready to work this week thanks to a terrific job from the training coordinator Jennifer Goecker. All students had already scheduled their PMP or CAPM exams and were committed to working hard for both classwork and after-hours.

Our first day, after introductions and getting to know each other was spent going over some of the fundamentals of the CAPM and PMP exams and of project management itself. We looked at the 5 Process Groups, as well as the 9 Knowledge areas. I’m pretty sure everyone remember those poetry-reading-crows and will hopefully remember all 9 Knowledge Areas too!!!

For those of you unfamiliar with my crows, (I Saw Two Crows Quietly Having Coffee and Reading Poetry) It’s a great pneumonic to remember the framework.

Kim

Why did I choose the CAPM instead of PMP? Basically, I need to start somewhere! The entire process is overwhelming and when comparing requirements I decided that for me personally, CAPM was the best choice. I want to get my feet wet and have a really good understanding of this entire process. Eventually, I will move on to the PMP, but for right now CAPM works for me (and really it scares me LOL). Let's see........3 hour vs. 4 hour test, 150 questions vs. 200 questions..........I'm just sayin' (totally kidding, of course).

I have to admit that I'm having a difficult time dedicating "study time". I'm hoping that the research and work I'm doing for PPM will help me (I suspect it will) while I'm not "studying". I am happy to say that starting next week, life should settle a bit and I will have more time to dedicate to studying.........we all know how important studying is AND remember who I work for now (passing the exam is not optional)!!
