Announcement

ISSUED BY PMI ON 1 MARCH 2012

PMI is implementing a new fee for the rescheduling and cancellation of certification examinations. Effective 1 April 2012, at noon (Eastern Daylight Time), test takers who reschedule or cancel their exam within 30 calendar days of their scheduled appointment will be charged a fee of US$70.

Rescheduling fees are a means to better serve certification candidates by allowing for greater seating availability at Prometric Testing Centers.

According to Victor R. Carter-Bey, Manager, Certification, Project Management Institute

This is an update about the Program Management Professional (PgMP)® credential Role Delineation Study (RDS) and examination change that was announced back in March.

You may recall that the major outcomes of the PgMP® RDS include:
• The three evaluations for the PgMP® credential, which include the panel review, the examination, and the Multi-rater Assessment (MRA), are being updated to reflect changes to the role that were identified in the study.

• The new RDS restructures the program management performance domains and tasks.

PMI recently updated our timeline for the exam change process and wanted to share the following important information with you:

• The release date for the new PgMP exam has been changed from 1 January 2012 to 1 February 2012, providing candidates an additional three weeks to exam under the current structure.

There is a lot of emphasis on prepping for your certification or credential exam, however, another important component of the process is the actual testing experience. Test anxiety is the number one cause of failure on these exams. By knowing what to expect on test day, you will hopefully greatly reduce your anxiety!

You will schedule your exam for a date and time convenient for you through the Prometric.com website. After entering your information, you will be able to search for local Prometric testing centers.

If you specialize in program management more so than project management, the Program Management Professional (PgMP) credential may be a good option to further demonstrate your professional capabilities.

PMI currently has five certifications/credentials, with PgMP being the most rigorous. I personally strongly recommend getting your Project Management Professional (PMP) prior to the PgMP, if at all possible. The application process is a bit easier and it serves as an excellent foundation for the PgMP process and exam.

I recently got selected for audit on my PgMP (Program Management Professional) certification application. For many people, audit notification would elicit a groan, some mumbling, and probably a fair amount of frustration.

But, believe it or not, I was actually hoping to be audited. Crazy, eh? (now, I wasn't running around the office doing the happy-dance, but I was glad I was selected.)

Good news for all certified project professionals: PMI is restructuring the PDU categories.

For all project managers that hold PMI credentials (PMP, PMI-RMP, PMI-SP, and PgMP), there is a continuing education requirement that must be met in order to maintain the credential. After your hard work, study time, and endurance in passing the test, you definitely do not want to let your credential lapse - even if you have changed careers, etc. You never know when the need for that credential may resurface.
