At Passionate Project Management, we are always seeking out new, creative, and convenient methods of delivering exam preparation information.

Last week we held our first Live Online Risk Management (PMI-RMP) 3-day exam prep course. We had a great three days and the participants were fully engaged and focused on learning the material, despite the challenges of being in an online learning environment.

Given the success of the class, PPM will definitely be adding more Live Online courses to the schedule - giving our students the benefit and experience of an in-person class with the flexibility of participating in the class from your home and office.

We look forward to adding some more Passionate Project Management RMPs soon - we are confident all the participants will be successful!!!

Congratulations to Linda Fiorenzano, PMP, on being selected our Passionate Project Manager of the Month for January!

A project manager for more than ten years, Linda Fiorenzano recently earned her PMP credential and is planning to pursue the Risk Management Professional next.

Professionally, Linda leads large scale Enterprise-wide projects that require software/technology implementations for financial institutions and manufacturing companies.

Personally, she runs her life like a project - from planning a wedding to completing the Christmas shopping.

PPM: What makes you a passionate project manager?

I believe in the process and, more importantly, the value of planning, executing, and monitoring a group of activities. I believe in the pursuit of excellence. Project Management concepts resonate with me both professionally and personally.

PMP / CAPM Exam Cram - LIVE ONLINE

PPM recently announced the launch of our live, online PMP and CAPM exam cram sessions. We have officially kicked them off and have had excellent feedback. I love getting the opportunity to spend some time with candidates before their exam and I have found these sessions very enjoyable!

The PMP / CAPM Exam Cram is designed for individuals who have either completed an exam prep class or who have been self-studying.

The online class is facilitated live by an instructor and includes:

Many training providers offer a "Day 5 Test Option", where students who have previously received their approval from PMI and have their eligibility ID/Test Code, are able to sit for the exam on the day after the class. For many who are not fully aware of the difficulty of the PMP exam, it may seem like a great option to get it all "done" in one week. However, the PMP credential is not a reflection of one week, it is a reflection of many years of experience and education.

Are you considering participating in a PMP exam prep camp? Prep camps, or boot camps, are an excellent method for ensuring full knowledge of the PMI principles and the PMBOK in order to successfully pass the PMP exam.

What to expect:

1. Four or five days of intense instruction. The instruction should include a thorough review of each of the 42 processes, including the associated inputs, tools and techniques, and outputs. In addition, concepts not in the PMBOK, yet included on the exam, should be covered.

2. Good programs will offer evening study sessions. These sessions prove to be very beneficial for the students and I strongly recommend that you plan on participating in these sessions. Generally, the evening sessions are less formalized instruction and focus more on discussion capabilities of the key concepts.

When deciding to pursue the PMP credential, many folks are not sure what the best method is to fully prepare themselves for the exam. Depending on your research, you will find that people have some very set opinions about PMP preparation. Bottom line, there is no ONE answer to which is best because it really depends on the individual: your learning style, finances, availability, urgency, etc.

If you are trying to decide what is best for you, here are some different approaches and the pros and cons. Again, at the end of the day, one is not better than the other, it's about what is going to work for YOU.

SELF-STUDY
Using various resources available, prepare yourself for the exam through a self-structured program. Our recommended resources: The PMBOK Guide, 4th Edition, a reputable self-study book, and practice exams (be sure to verify the quality of the self-study book and the exams - there are a lot of poor quality products out there, especially on the internet).
