Grandfather Clause for People Who Fail 3rd Edition?

The clock is ticking and PMI will soon switch over to a new exam based on PMBOK 4th Edition. Remember that June 30th is the last day for the PMP exam based on 3rd Edition and July 31st is the last day for the CAPM exam.

A lot of the Prometric testing sites are seeing a rush of people trying to sit for the exam prior to the change.

But what if you don't pass the exam before the deadline and have to re-site for the exam after the change? Is there a grandfather clause?

Unfortunately, the answer is no.

The 6/30 and 7/31 cut-over dates are firm. Even if you applied and already sat for a 3rd Edition exam, after those dates, you will be given a 4th Edition exam.

A couple of suggestions -

you can either try to get in now and get it done and hope you don't need to do a retake

or

you can take a chance on sitting for 4th Edition with 3rd Edition knowledge (not recommended!)

or

you can just relax a bit, prep for the 4th Edition exam and not worry about the change-over. (Just be sure to double-check your study sources - make sure they have an accurate read on the 4th Edition changes.)

GOOD LUCK!
