PMP / CAPM Boot Camp - Bothell - February 2012
Participants: Nancy, Harsha, Rahul, Tony, John, Chhatra, Janwillem, Taryn, Keith, Betsie, and Shannon
February brought Belinda and Lenora up to Bothell, Washington for an on-site PMP / CAPM exam prep class. We had eleven students all preparing to follow in the footsteps of many of their peers at Philips and get either their PMP credential or CAPM certification.
We had an innovative group that overcame the historically "pissy" day with a combination of donuts (including - not even kidding you - a bacon-covered donut) and funny stories.
Not to be outdone, however, was the entertaining and enlightening addition to our earned value section on Thursday:
To remember the TCPI formula, we use the story "Bats And Cats Eat Vermin, Bats And Cats Are Cool" (BAC-EV/BAC-AC). But we've historically had a tough time translating vermin in Dutch. But that is no longer a problem. Janwillem gave us a new word: Ongedierte! (And they thought they were just going to learn about boring PMP stuff!)
A few of our finer moments:
- Tony nailed the definition of a project.... verbatim
- Shannon will always remember the "BS" in scope
- Taryn will never think of status reports as status reports again... they are now "Performance Reports"
- And if any member of the class hasn't seen the show Prison Break, I bet they will check it out now... just to get a glimpse of Schofield
All in all it was a great class and we have no doubts that they will all be successful on their exams. And we have a feeling we may be seeing some of these folks in an upcoming Agile Certified Practitioner class ;)
