**EDIT**
Because of the popularity and number of views of this blog post we have created a new page that provides additional details on the PMP Certification process/timeline.
Please check out our new page: PMP Process/Timeline - How long does it take to get the PMP Certification?
**EDIT**
The road to PMP certification can be a long one and due to the complexity of the application process, some candidates get a little overwhelmed when starting the process. To help you along, we've outlined the process and approximate timelines below.
Remember, if at any time you have questions regarding the application and certification process, we're here to help! Call us: 928-252-3129.
STEP ONE: Review the certification requirements. If you can verify your experience, go for your PMP, if not, the CAPM is a great option!
STEP TWO: Now the fun begins! (Some candidates have even said that completing the PMP application is more difficult than the exam!). Allow at least a week to compile and document all of your information. Week One Down
STEP THREE: When your application is complete, submit it electronically to PMI. In five days, you will receive electronic notice that your application has been validated and you can pay your testing fees. Keep in mind, that for PMP, it will save you a bit of money to be a PMI member, so this would be a great time to pay for that as well. Week Two Down
STEP FOUR: Here's the moment you've been waiting for! Within minutes of paying your credentialing fee, you will receive a confirmation email. This is a very important email, because it will notify you of one of two things: 1) Congratulations, here is your test code or 2)Congratulations, your application is being audited (wah wah).
If you were lucky enough to get escape the audit, you will be provided with a code and a link to the prometric sites. Select the location near you and schedule your exam. For most test centers it will be a week or two before you can get in. Weeks Three and Four Down
If you were randomly selected for audit (this is truly random and does not reflect the quality of your application) you will be provided with instructions on how to fulfill your audit requirements. This will include providing PMI with signed statements from the individuals you identified on your projects and providing your transcripts and/or certificates for any education. In general, this can take at least three to four weeks, although in some cases, it can take much longer. Once you have fulfilled the audit requirements, PMI will approve your application and provide your test code within ten days. Weeks Three Through Eight Down
And maybe now you can see why some people think the exam is a piece of cake after making it through the application! Keep these timelines in mind when selecting a Prep Camp or class, to be sure you've allowed enough time to get your application completed prior to class.
BEST OF LUCK!
