The Prep Camp Experience
Are you considering participating in a PMP exam prep camp? Prep camps, or boot camps, are an excellent method for ensuring full knowledge of the PMI principles and the PMBOK in order to successfully pass the PMP exam.
What to expect:
1. Four or five days of intense instruction. The instruction should include a thorough review of each of the 42 processes, including the associated inputs, tools and techniques, and outputs. In addition, concepts not in the PMBOK, yet included on the exam, should be covered.
2. Good programs will offer evening study sessions. These sessions prove to be very beneficial for the students and I strongly recommend that you plan on participating in these sessions. Generally, the evening sessions are less formalized instruction and focus more on discussion capabilities of the key concepts.
3. Test questions, test questions, and more test questions. One of the best ways to prepare for the exam is to practice taking tests. It is critical, however, that the practice questions are accurate and representative of the actual exam. (be on the look out for any company that tells you they have "actual" test bank questions - simply not true and not allowed!).
4. A reputable PMP prep camp will do everything to create the right environment for the students to learn. This includes limiting class size, offering rooms at the host hotel, and providing breakfast, lunch, and snacks. The goal is to allow the students to study uninterrupted.
5. Many schools, ours included, offer a "day-five-test-option". This does not mean that you are guaranteed to take the test on Friday, simply that you will be prepared for the exam on the fifth day. The ability to get a test seat for that day is going to be based on Prometric availability in your area. Students must have their application approved by PMI and have a test code in order to schedule their exam. The PMP prep camp provider should assist you in getting your test scheduled.
6. Be prepared to be tired. Prep camps are very intense and tiring. Proper rest, nutrition and exercise are going to be very important. Do everything that you can to block out the week to fully focus on the material and minimize disruptions and distractions. Many folks assume that it will be possible to manage emails and work responsibilities during the week. Unfortunately, this can prove difficult and potentially impact your success with the exam.

On the money
This helped me determine which provider to go with. I really needed the evening study sessions and wanted to be in a "sequestered"-type environment. Thanks so much for the information.
