Trying to get certified before 4th Edition?
One question we get a lot surrounds the impending deadline to get certified on 3rd edition. As of July 1, the PMP exam will be based on the new PMBOK(R) Guide, 4th Edition and many folks are trying to rush in and get their testing done in the next few weeks.
A couple of things to consider:
1st - many of the Prometric sites where you have to take the exam are booked up. I've heard of a few situations where people paid a lot of money for a prep course, only to find out that they couldn't reserve a time to take their test after all. One lady had actually spent over $2800 on course fees (with another provider), bought plane tickets, submitted for vacation time away from work, only to find out a few days ago that she couldn't get in to take the exam after all. Unfortunately, the training company isn't being very helpful in making other arrangements or refunding her money.
2nd - after having thoroughly and extensively reviewed and documented the 4th edition for our course materials, my opinion is that the test will actually be a little easier for 4th edition, for a couple of reasons. They streamlined and reworked most of the processes so that they are less redundant and make more sense. In addition, it seems to me that the processes are now much more realistic and applicable to the current project management environment.
RECOMMENDATION: If you don't have a date set for your exam, look for a prep course after June and go for the 4th Edition. :)
Best of luck!! And remember, we are here to help you - even if you don't ultimately choose us as your training provider - we want to make your certification process as stress-free as possible!
